The appropriated and translated Zhang Kechun image, painted in grisaille, is silhouetted by the bright oil colour field of John Young’s Mondo Cane painting, which is silhouetted by Bridget Riley’s Egyptian Series of fugitive colours, painted in the manner of Robert Ryman’s paintings, which is silhouetted by Agnes Martin’s rectangular grids, which is silhouetted by the materiality of the polycotton canvas, which is silhouetted by the box-like structure of the transportable wooden stretcher, which is silhouetted and framed by the permanency of the gallery walls that being a white cube of late modernist proportions thus a frame for cultural transactions, which is then silhouetted by John Young’s statement for his painting, Mondo Cane.
